Some Hope for Texas: Republicans Kept the Senate Majority
Republicans kept their Texas Senate majority despite the blue wave and their loss of the Texas House. Socialist Democrats plan to transform the state’s economic and political future, CBS News reports.
The Texas Senate can block House legislation and reject incoming Governor Gina Hinojosa’s appointments.
It allows Texans to stop the agenda for a couple of years. Hopefully, the vote will turn around in 2028. It buys time
Democrats needed to flip 14 seats to take control of the House. They flipped 21.
The Texas Senate, however, was different. The chamber has 31 seats, but only about half were up for election this cycle. According to AP projections, Republicans will retain a 19-seat majority, while Democrats will hold 12.
Despite Republicans retaining control of the state Senate, Democrats made significant gains in both chambers, particularly in Tarrant County, once considered a Republican stronghold and the state’s largest conservative-leaning county. It’s now an immigrant county that votes for Democrats.
The Republican Party can’t win without Texas. They likely won’t win the presidency ever again.
According to Reuters, the Democratic wins were fueled by record turnout — especially in Latino communities that have borne the brunt of President Donald Trump’s immigration sweeps — and cracks in the Republican coalition, as some conservatives and independents soured on inflation and the war with Iran.
“I want to say something to the powerful people who have gotten very comfortable running this state,” radical-Left Hinojosa said in her victory speech. “The voters have delivered a mandate for change, and it is change they will get.”
Changing demographics are probably unalterable. You become the people you imported.
