Alan Dershowitz Wants to See “This Democratic Party Destroyed”
Alan Dershowitz published his book titled Why I Quit the Dems: And So Should You! (Confessions of a Reluctant Republican) on September 29, 2026. After 75 years as a loyal Democrat, he has become a reluctant Republican. Where else can a classical liberal go? They don’t have a party.
“I am a reluctant Republican,” he said, “but I am a staunch anti-Democrat. I want to see the Democratic Party defeated; I want to see the current Democratic Party destroyed.”
He explained that the Democratic Party has moved “so far to the left.” He referenced politicians like Ilhan Omar and Abdel El Sayed campaigning with Hassan Piker.
“It used to be the extremes, but now it’s the center of the party, the core of the party. Today, we are seeing Ilhan Omar meeting with Hasan Piker. Hasan Piker! The man who said that America deserved 9/11 …this is what we’re seeing ilhan Omar embrace. This is what we’re seeing Abdel El Sayed embrace.”
Dershowitz continued. “It was hard for me to leave. I have been a Democrat for 75 years .I didn’t leave the Democratic Party; the party left me. I cannot associate with the party whose central components support and endorse these racist bigots, anti-American, anti-semite, anti-Judeo-Christian- every good thing that America stands for.
Dershowitz supports women’s rights, gay rights, and a separation of church and state but draws the line at the Democratic Party’s extremism, claiming the party’s poster children were people like Hassan Piker and Ilhan Omar. He had written an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal in April, saying “the Democratic Party’s hostility to Israel is too much.”
Everything in that neo-authoritarian party is too much.
