GOP Lawmakers to Block DSA Revolutionaries from Congress
Republican lawmakers are considering a congressional maneuver—a rule already in place—that could block Democratic Socialists of America members from being sworn into the House, even if they win their elections next week, Fox News reported.
The move hinges on the oath of office. Lawmaker-elects must swear to uphold the Constitution before taking their seat. But under this procedure, any member-elect can challenge another’s right to be sworn in by presenting evidence that the person would not honor that oath.
The DSA’s own platform, which calls for scrapping the current Constitution and drafting a new one, could serve as that evidence.
Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, told Fox News Digital he’s considering invoking the challenge. Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., has already said he plans to use it against incoming Rep. Darializa Avila Chevalier.
“You cannot swear an oath to support and defend the Constitution while actively working to destroy it. The oath of office is not just words you say at a ceremony. It is a belief. It is an oath to our country and our fellow countrymen,” Self told Fox News Digital.
“The House has both the authority and the duty to ensure that anyone who takes that oath does so in good faith, without mental reservation or purpose of evasion.
Here’s another great idea from Rep. Self.
At the start of a new Congress, all 435 members typically take that oath en masse, led by the House Speaker.
Let Them Sue! Fight! Fight! Fight!
I have been writing this over and over. How can you swear allegiance to this country while wanting to completely dismantle it? You can’t swear an oath to the Constitution you hope to destroy.
There will be lawsuits.
In 1969, the Supreme Court ruled that the House cannot exclude an elected member who meets the constitutional age, residency, and citizenship requirements.
Let them sue. Start fighting for the United States of America. Meanwhile, keep them out of Congress.
