SCOTUS: The Admin Can Prevent Immigration Judges from Giving Amnesty

SCOTUS ruled that the Trump administration can prevent immigration judges from giving amnesty. Under Joe Biden, immigration judges closed deportation cases without a trial or any resolution. They were just allowed to remain in the United States.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to restore the Biden-era regulation in question. It allowed immigration judges to suspend some deportation proceedings. In a brief, unsigned order, the court turned down a request from three cities and an [illegal] immigrant legal services group to pause an agreement between Texas and the U.S. Department of Justice that struck down the rule.

There were no noted dissents.

The regulation at the center of the dispute, which provides what is known as “administrative closure,” was adopted in 2024 by the Executive Office for Immigration Review. The office is part of the Department of Justice.

It allowed immigration judges to suspend some deportation proceedings.

Biden was allowing thousands of deportation cases to be vacated, leaving the illegal aliens in the US without any real legal status.

Three cities with large illegal alien populations filed an emergency petition in August. They were Baltimore, Maryland; New Haven, Connecticut; and Columbus, Ohio, along with the migrant legal services group Centro Legal de la Raza.

Left-wing cities and La Raza tried to keep this going.
