ConocoPhillips to Cut Staff Again in Oil/Gas Averse Canada
Seeking Alpha reports that ConocoPhillips (COP) said it will announce job cuts in Canada’s oil patch on Tuesday, marking the second straight year it is laying off employees and contractors in the country, though it is unclear how many jobs are affected.
The company cut workers at its Canadian operations late last year after announcing it would reduce its global workforce of 13,000 by 20%-25%.
ConocoPhillips (COP) operates the Surmont oil sands site, which produced 157K bbl/day in September, making it the fourth-largest in-situ oil sands well site; it also actively drills in the Montney tight oil and gas formation in Alberta and British Columbia.
Reuters further reported that the Houston, Texas-based company did not disclose how many jobs were affected in 2025.
“We routinely review our organization to align with our long-term strategy, operate safely and efficiently, and remain well-positioned for future opportunities,” the spokesperson said.
A spokesperson said the move is part of routine organizational reviews to align with long‑term strategy, operate safely and efficiently, and position the company for future opportunities.
What might be next after Canada? They are in the UK. It seems likely that those who push climate change extremism and are hostile to fossil fuels could be on the chopping block.
After years of de-industrialization and failed efforts to replace fossil fuels, Canada and many countries in the EU are still clinging to a failed ideology. They are programmed to self-destruct.
