Nigerian Christians Under an Existential Threat

US media is generally sympathetic to the pro-Hamas groups who call the war between Israel and Hamas a genocide.  Most of the dead in Gaza are terrorists, and their population has reportedly increased since the war began. However, when it comes to Nigerian Christians, it’s a debate. There is a good reason for that. Boko Harem is happy to kill everyone, but they are radical Islamists who kidnap young Christian girls and force them to become Muslims.

Unfortunately, anything American conservatives are concerned about becomes a conspiracy theory in the media. Our support ends up hurting the people we care about. That’s a personal observation.

There is severe, ongoing violence driven by Islamist insurgencies, banditry, and farmer-herder clashes, though international bodies.

Tens of thousands of people—including both Christians and Muslims—have been killed since 2009 due to Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), banditry, and central-belt clashes. Human rights monitors and faith-based groups report that over 52,000 Christians have been killed since 2009, with thousands more killed in recent years.

“Genocide Watch has called Nigeria “a killing field of defenseless Christians,” House Representative Chris Smith said.  He noted that over 52,000 Christians in Nigeria have reportedly been targeted and killed by Islamist extremists, while approximately 34,000 moderate non-Fulani Muslims have been murdered in Islamist attacks since 2009. The targeted violence has forced about five million Nigerians—mostly Christians—into Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps within Nigeria and in refugee camps at regional and sub-regional borders.

Millions of Nigerians are internally displaced (IDPs), with hundreds of Christian communities destroyed, abandoned, or subjected to church burnings and targeted attacks.

The United Nations and crisis data analysts say that while Christians face severe, targeted persecution, the majority of overall casualties and displacement from groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP have statistically impacted Muslim communities in the north.

People who reject the idea of it being a genocide tie it to American conservative conspiracy theories. One of those is Al Jazeera, a left-wing organization. You can watch their video here.

The fact is that Boko Harem is killing Muslims, but at the rate they are attacking defenseless Nigerian Christians, eventually there will be no Nigerian Christians. You can watch one of the horrible clips here and imagine yourself facing this.

We can all agree that it’s horrible.
